The Society of Architectural Historians gears up for the upcoming Annual Conference in Detroit, Michigan. The Conference will feature thirty-four paper sessions and one graduate student lightening round discussing current research in the field, a day-long Historic Preservation Seminar about “Retooling Detroit” that will be open to the public by reservation, and twenty-five tours exploring locations in and around Detroit. The paper sessions will cover all geographic areas and time periods, including relevant topics such as contextualizing “shrinking cities,” the architecture of Fordism, and cultural landscapes. The Historic Preservation Seminar and the tours will dig deep into Detroit’s current and historical position in architecture and urban history.

Special events include a closing night Benefit on the 32nd floor of the iconic Guardian Building in downtown Detroit honoring YouthVille Detroit, Michigan Architectural Foundation Architreks, and Apex Organization Battle of the Bricks.
